This week is Parliament week, which also coincides with a Climate Change Conference in Glasgow called COP26.

Have a look at the PowerPoint at some of the issues that are affecting the world.

KS2 Whole school

Can you try some of the activities?

Activity 2

Your challenge is to write a letter to Mr Galvin, explaining how we can make the school more environmentally friendly.

How can we do our bit to ensure that we are a sustainable school?

Now, Mr Galvin likes correct punctuation and grammar, so make sure you don’t make any spelling mistakes.

  • Try to make your letter formal, do not use contractions e.g. can’t
  • Paragraph 1- Explain why you are writing to him
  • Paragraph 2 – First idea to make the school eco-friendly and how this will make a difference
  • Paragraph 3 – Second idea to make the school eco-friendly and how this will make a difference
  • Paragraph 4- Conclusion.

Once you have completed your draft, make sure you check your spellings, with a dictionary, if possible!

Check your capital letters and full stops. Have you been able to use an exclamation mark or question mark?

Look at the layout in the attached document. Can you write your letter up in neat in the same style?

  1. When was Guy Fawkes born?
  2. What was his actual name?
  3. What did he do?
  4. How many people were part of the plot?

Have a look at the PowerPoint below:

Firework safety

Can you create your own Firework Safety Poster?

English – Year 3, 4, 5 and 6

On Friday, 5th November, it is Bonfire Night!

This week we would like you to write your own fireworks poem.

Can you think about what you can see?

What can you smell?

What can you hear?

Your challenge is to include as many poetic devices as you can:

  1. Onomatopeia – Word sounds like the action e.g. bang, fizz
  2. Simile – When you describe an object to something else, using as or like e.g. The Catherine Wheel was like a spinning top, moving across the sky
  3. Metaphor- When you describe an object as something else e.g. The rocket was a Chinese Dragon
  4. Adjectives.

If you wanted to really challenge yourself you could try and produce a poem that uses rhyming couplets?

Try drafting your poem first. Then edit your spelling, punctuation and grammar.

Once you have done this, can you write your poem up in neat? Think of it as handwriting practice.

Finally, you can decorate your poem.
